Polish countryside

About This Project

Voices of Contemporary Poland is dedicated to documenting how culture and tradition continue to shape identity in Poland today—through the voices of young people.

While discussions of tradition are often led by scholars, historians, and cultural commentators, this project centers those who are rarely given space in cultural archives: high school students. Their perspectives capture tradition as it is lived in the present—practiced, adapted, questioned, and passed on in families, communities, and everyday life.

By collecting and sharing these short personal essays, the project creates a living archive of contemporary Polish culture. The anthology highlights the diversity of experiences across the country and fosters greater understanding of how community and tradition connect people across generations.

Together, these stories form a record of Poland's next generation.

About the Editor

I'm an 11th-grade student living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a neighborhood shaped by Polish culture. My mother grew up in Wroclaw, and my grandparents, who split their time between Brooklyn and Wroclaw, helped raise me, sharing stories and traditions that sparked my love of writing and cultural storytelling.

I started Voices of Contemporary Poland to provide a platform for young people to share their experiences and perspectives. This project allows me to connect my passion for writing with my Polish heritage and to celebrate the voices of the next generation.
